Laura M. LaVoie is a freelance writer living in a 120 square-foot house in the mountains of Western North Carolina with her partner, Matt, and their hairless cat, Piglet. In 2011, Laura and Matt took their tiny house experience to Durban, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa to build a shelter for Zulu orphans and other vulnerable children.
Laura's been a NotMom for as long as she can remember. She didn't even like kids when she was a kid and, much to her older sister's dismay, destroyed all dolls trusted in her possession. On August 1 2015, she was named Childfree Woman of the Year as part of annual International Childfree Day activities.
